  1. S.F. 2278, Article 1, Section 33; 84th Legislative Session 2005-2006, Physicians, traditional midwives, and other licensed health care professionals providing prenatal care must have information about postpartum depression (PPD) available to women and their families. Hospitals and other health care facilities must provide departing mothers and fathers and other family members with written information about PPD, including its symptoms, methods of coping with the illness, and treatment resources. Status: Passed 2006
  2. HB 43, 86th Legislative Session 2009-2010. Amends the statue to include mandated screening prior to hospital discharge and at postnatal check-ups. Father and families should be included in the treatment process. Also includes a proposal for a public awareness campaign. Status: Pending (PDF)  This did not pass through the 2009 legislative session.
  3. Statue 145.906, 1st Special Session, 2005, postpartum depression education and information reads as follows:
    1. The commissioner of health shall work with health care facilities, licensed health and mental health care professionals, mental health advocates, consumers, and families in the state to develop materials and information about postpartum depression, including treatment resources, and develop policies and procedures to comply with this section. 
    2. Physicians, traditional midwives, and other licensed health care professionals providing prenatal care to women must have available to women and their families information about postpartum depression.
    3. Hospitals and other health care facilities in the state must provide departing new mothers and fathers and other family members, as appropriate, with written information about postpartum depression, including its symptoms, methods of coping with the illness, and treatment resources.
