There are two places here where screening is accomplished:

  1. Obstetrics providers in Health Department clinics and through the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) are reimbursed for completing the Psychosocial Risk Assessment in conjunction with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Prenatal Record on all clients seeking prenatal care. This record includes screening for depression.
  2. The OHCA also sends letters to all members that are newly enrolled due to pregnancy asking them to call regarding their benefits. When they call in, they are asked questions about their health history and they are asked if they have experienced postpartum depression in the past. If they have history of depression, they are then referred to the care management department for follow up. Clients are again sent a letter during the postpartum period asking them to call back. Currently there is no screening during the newborn call regarding depression, but staff have proposed including this is in the future.
